I've helped fund 4 hours of a research assistant’s time to work on life saving cancer research.
$100 for every birdie...
Throughout my life, cancer has been represented as a type of brooding darkness. I have watched a family member grow weak and ultimately lose their battle against this darkness and I have seen close friends go to war with cancer, pouring everything they have into their struggle against the darkness, emerging from it bearing the physical and mental toll that this fight has had on them.
Cancer is the not-so-silent killer in our nation, a killer with still not enough in terms of a solution or ability to offer effective tools for those that find themselves facing this struggle. 30% of deaths in Australia during 2024 were a result of cancer and especially in the young the rate of cancer incidence is only increasing. Raising awareness for effective prevention and early sign awareness is key to both avoiding and surviving this fight. Likewise, raising funds for researching new treatments with the hope of one day finding a cure is an ongoing and expensive, yet nonetheless vital, struggle.
I'm taking part in Cancer Council's Longest Day golf challenge to raise funds for cancer research, and will be donating $100 for every birdie I score on the day. If you also want to make a financial contribution for this important cause you can do so here.
