2024 Longest Day of Golf - Completed

The Australian Golf Team has successfully completed its 72-hole 2024 Longest Day of Golf challenge at Frankston Golf Club on Thursday 19 December. So far, the team has raised over $3k for cancer prevention and biomedical research programs for Cancer Council Victoria.

Sincere thanks to all our collective donors for supporting this worthy and relevant cause to both our sport and society in general. The contributions are genuinely appreciated.

We were fortunate to have a glorious Melbourne summer day with a mid 20's temperature, clear blue skies and a gentle breeze throughout. Perfect golf conditions for the best on-course day of the year.

It was a day full of good and indifferent golf (no such thing as bad golf - only challenge is to get better) but far more importantly lots of fun, chat, story swapping and support for each other. Gets better every year. Thanks to a great team and especially Brian Hill for his invaluable support across the day coordinating food and water/sports drinks.

Among 15 players that competed across the day, we also welcomed two new 72-hole players this year in Danielle Knowles and Patrick Taylor. They joined Vanessa Lionello, Kavisha Di-Pietro, Sally Peers, Harry King and me (David Greenhill) who played the four rounds.

It was also great to have so many players visiting Frankston to play sections of the day including Chris Elliot, Damien de Bohun, Brad James, David Stein, Juliet Austin, Charlie Reid, Andrew Poppins and Chris King.

Special thanks to Frankston Golf Club, especially President Ross Eddy and the fantastic membership that fully support the team undertaking the Longest Day at this beautiful bushland course.

The venue is truly spectacular, and the encouragement given by members to the team throughout the day warmly welcomed.

Finally, well done to the team for a wonderful day - twelve months to work some more on our golf games and stamina (me especially) so we can do it all over again. Roll on 2025.

The Australian Golf Team is doing the 2024 Longest Day of Golf

Summer is here in Australia and from a golf point of view, it means one thing to me and my colleagues in the Australian Golf Team – the Longest Day of Golf.

In simple terms, the Longest Day of Golf sees golfers all over Australia playing 36, 54 or 72 holes on a preferred December day to raise funds for Cancer Council prevention programs and bio-medical research for and early detection of skin cancer – a major health issue in Australia and one which is directly relevant to golfers.

Every dollar raised within a State and Territory stays with the respective Cancer Council in that State and Territory. The 2023 Longest Day of Golf raised an impressive $2.5 million through 4000 golfers undertaking the challenge across all parts of Australia.

In 2024, we're doing the 72-hole golf course challenge at the Frankston Golf Club in South-Eastern Melbourne on Thursday 19 December beginning at 6.30am as part of an ‘Australian Golf Team’ created for the day.

I know we all get asked for support to all sorts of different things, but if you're able to donate, we'd naturally be most appreciative. All donations over $2 are tax-deductible.

Regardless of the challenge, the Longest Day encompass all the great things we love about golf - playing our sport and taking on the game’s many skill challenges, spending quality time with family and friends and enjoying the wonderful places to play that golf offers. Plus raising funds for a worthy and relevant cause to golf.

I’ve been doing the Longest Day since 2016 and it’s a lot of fun – best thing I’ve done in golf.

If you’d like to do the Longest Day and create your own team – it’s easy. Simply visit www.longestday.org.au and follow the steps.

Thanks in consideration and have a great Christmas and happy New Year.

We're taking on Cancer Council's The Longest Day...

...the ultimate golf challenge to complete four rounds of golf in one day!

We'll be testing our skill, strength, and stamina to raise funds for world-class cancer research that saves lives.

Please sponsor our team today as we tee off to make a difference!  By working together, we can all play a part in reducing the impact of cancer for all Australians.

With your support, it's all of us against cancer.

Thank you to our Sponsors
